Kids Ju-Jitsu Classes
Wednesday – 6pm to 7.15pm
Friday – 7.45pm to 9pm
Cost: £5 per class
Our kids Ju-Jitsu classes are aimed at improving the children’s fitness, discipline, confidence, and providing them with the knowledge and skills to defend themselves.
Our kids classes include a warm-up, defence techniques based around our self defence and Ju-Jitsu syllabus, and grappling (pin, not submission). All of this is taught with an element of fun added to keep the younger ones engaged with the curriculum.
The kids martial arts classes at Leigh Ju-Jitsu are suitable for children aged 5 years and above.
Adults Ju-Jitsu Classes
Tuesday – 8pm to 9.30pm
Thursday – 8pm to 9.30pm
Cost: £6 per class
Conditioning and fitness is an important part of of our training so our adults Ju-Jitsu classes usually start off with a solid 40 minute warm-up which includes exercises (press-ups, sit-ups, etc) and padwork (punching, kicking, and kneeing thai pads held by a partner).
After thoroughly warming up and practicing our striking, we move onto our Atemi Ju-Jitsu techniques, which often include blocks, strikes, and joint locks, before a takedown or throw. Our students learn to defend from a variety of attacks, such as punches, chokes, bear hugs and knife/weapon attacks, with a focus on simple yet effective self defence techniques to overcome them.
Finally, to round off the hour and half lesson, we enjoy a submission grappling session which takes inspiration from the martial art of BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu).
Private Lessons
One-to-One private lessons are available upon request, as is private tuition for small groups.
Private lessons are suitable for those who cannot attend our normal classes or require bespoke tuition. You can specify what you’d like to learn in these private sessions, such as grappling, striking, or self defence.
Please note, the free first class applies to our standard classes only, not private lessons.
Contact Sensei Alan today for prices and to find out more about private lessons.
New Students
We welcome all, whether you’re a beginner or experienced martial artist, to attend our classes.
Your first class is free of charge so why not try us out to see if Leigh Ju-Jitsu is a good fit for you.
What Do I Need For My First Lesson?
If you do not have a gi, wear an old t-shirt and a pair of jogging bottoms, leggings or shorts. Nothing with a zip or anything else that may hurt you or your training partner. Also avoid wearing pants with pockets as hands and feet can easily get stuck in these when grappling and can cause injury.
After a few sessions, if you wish to continue training, then we recommend you purchase a BJJ gi. These can be purchased from the club, but you can also buy online from reputable brands like Tatami Fightwear.
It’s important to stay hydrated during the class so we suggest bringing a bottle of water or juice to practice so you can take on fluids regularly. We stock bottles of water at the club if you need to buy a drink.
If you’re new to the club, please arrive at the gym 15 minutes before class starts so we can introduce you to the club and facilities.
Licence
Every student and instructor is required to hold a valid membership licence. You will need to renew your licence annually as it serves as insurance for your training. A valid licence is also required for you to participate in the belt gradings.
